SILC: Samutprakarn International Ladies Club, Bangkok

A monthly letter from the Chairman of SILC

Happy New Year to all our SILC members!  My family had a lovely relaxing time over the holidays and saw in the New Year with friends in Bangna.  Hope you had a wonderful holiday and are ready to get involved with all the activities and events SILC has to offer in 2012.

Every month there are regular visits to our 3 preschools (Mahawong, Chanakroh and Prakkasamai) to do craft activities.  We keep ourselves active getting out and about in Bangkok with a tour – at this time of year they are outdoors as its cooler. There is a coffee morning and lunch each month as well as weekly sessions of mahjong and games of golf.

We had our first committee meeting of 2012 on Monday 9th January.  We reviewed the successful SILC bazaar, discussed welfare budgets and projects we are involved with and started to plan events for the months to come.  Mia was unable to come as she had the packers in so I would like to take this opportunity to thank her on behalf of SILC for organising our tours and being an active and such fun member of our club.  We will miss you  and wish you all the best in Houston.

We are trying to forge links with the IWC (International Women’s Club, Bangkok) and this month I have been involved in looking at welfare with the different ladies clubs.  I will feedback more on this as things evolve.

Our EGM, held on Friday 13th January during the Coffee Morning, was well attended and with proxy votes included we easily had the required quorum to ratify* (confirm by expressing consent or approval) the revised and updated SILC constitution.  The ayes* (affirmative votes) were unanimous. I’d just like to acknowledge Betty Stewart, Karyn Walker and Fiona Campbell’s assistance with the constitution revision and www.dictionary.com for the definitions.

As you read this I will be catching up with family and friends back in the UK.  I hope the weather will be kind and we can get out and about without getting too wet or cold.  All of us Brits know that if there is one thing you can never rely on it’s the weather! Also a problem a Dutch member told me she had this holiday too.

Here in Bangkok the gardens are looking dry and there has been no rain for a while. What a difference a couple of months make. I’m hoping that 2012 will be a quiet, trouble-free year in Bangkok.  I wish all our members the same.

We started the year welcoming a new member, Julie, at our coffee morning.  If you are interested in joining we’ll look forward to welcoming you too. Click on the Membership tab to find out more and download a copy of our Application Form.
